PREP OPTIONAL CLARIFICATIONS (K.Osberg 2/2010)

The Prep Optional Program is an alternative recreational program. Please keep in mind that judging should not mirror the J.O. Program. Execution deductions should be taken but their application should be modified.

GENERAL

  • Requirements - each event has [5] requirements with a value of 1.0. If an athlete attempts a requirement but does not complete the skill / series – deduct for incomplete requirement.  The deduction for incomplete requirement should not exceed 0.5.  DO NOT DEDUCT 1.0.

Example:  Dance Series on BB

Stretch Jump + Tuck Jump

Athlete has a balance error or ‘scootch’ of the feet between elements. A rhythm deduction of up to 0.5 should be taken. DO NOT DEDUCT 1.0.

UNEVEN BARS

  • Extra Swing – Do not apply the extra swing deduction to skills that require a cast.

Example #1

Pullover – Cast – Back hip Circle – Cast – Sole Circle Dismount

No extra swing deduction

Example #2

Pullover – cast – additional cast – Back Hip Circle – Cast – Underswing Dismount

Apply extra swing deduction 1 x

  • Evaluate all clear hip circles as ‘B’ elements. There is no amplitude requirement to receive ‘B’ credit in Prep Optional.

FLOOR EXERCISE

A Round off rebound backward roll fulfills an acro series requirement. The rebound will not break the series.

Meet Referees

Meet referees have organizational responsibilities. Sometimes this means contacting the meet director prior to the meet to clarify number of gymnasts, flow, and organization.  Event assignments should be done prior to the meet and each judge notified of the event(s) they are assigned to.  Meet referees should receive information from the meet director regarding changes to the meet and communicate these changes to the assigned judges.  Acting meet referees should consult with highest rated judge at event regarding any technical matters that arise. See rules and policies for full description of duties.

Note: non-judging meet referees have very specific duties. Refer to USAG regulations for this function.
